EFT for Sadness & Depression During Pregnancy

When I was 3 months pregnant, I experienced intense sadness at 7pm for a few nights in a row. I found myself feeling very emotional and crying for hours until I went to sleep. I even wondered if I was depressed. But each morning I’d wake up feeling fine emotionally.

There was no apparent reason that I could think of, so I was a little confused. I’m not sure what was so significant about 7pm. I suspected it was my hormones influencing my emotions.

Then I remembered one of the techniques I teach in my book, Stress Free Pregnancy, and use frequently with my clients. It is called Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT. It’s a simple, but powerful psychological acupressure technique for eliminating stuck energy and optimizing emotional health.

I did EFT for about 10 minutes and all the sadness disappeared. I fell asleep immediately and had an incredible sleep. The sadness never came back again.

 

EFT Technique & Phrases

EFT_handThe steps I took: I got ready for bed and went to my bedroom to lay down. I began by taking a few deep breaths into my abdomen. Then I began gently tapping my hand on the Karate Chop (KC) point as I said the phrases

  • “Even though I feel sad right now, I fully and completely love and accept myself.”
  • “Even though I feel sad and I don’t know why, I fully and completely love and accept myself.”
  • “Even though I am crying and I don’t know why, I fully and completely love and accept myself.”

 

I took 3 more deep breaths. Then I began said the following phrases as I gently tapped over various points shown in the diagram to the right:EFT_face 

  • I feel sad
  • I feel very emotional
  • I don’t know why I feel so sad
  • I am moved to tears
  • I feel exhausted
  • I feel confused by my sadness
  • I release and let go of all sadness, I release & let it go, and so it goes
  • I release and let go of all confusion, I release & let it go, and so it goes
  • I release and let go of all stuck emotions, I release & let them go, and so they go
  • I release and let go of all exhaustion, I release & let it go, and so it goes
  • I release and let go of all negative emotions, I release & let them go, and so they go
  • I release and let go of all negative ideas, I release & let them go, and so they go

 Afterwards, I grabbed my wrist with the opposite hand and inhaled a breath through my nose. Then as I exhaled, I said the word “Peace.”

 

EFT is very easy to learn, and while pregnant can help you:

  • Reduce or Eliminate Physical Pain
  • Remove Negative Emotions
  • Reduce Food Cravings
  • Balance Your Emotions
